since the new UAH semester starts next week.
(We will be kicking off TNS next week with a
GREAT 2-hr lesson from Reuel Reis, so don't

TONIGHT our end-of-summer party for TNS will
be in Bridge Street - at THE STATION 2 - come
DANCE to live music, and just plain have fun!

Thursday, August 19 kicks off TNS for the fall, and to get things off to a great start we have REUEL REIS here for the LAST time in a while! Reuel is a professional dance instructor from Nashville, who will soon be leaving our area and moving to New Orleans. Sad! So this is your LAST chance to take a 2-hr class with Reuel here in Huntsville for quite a while. DON'T MISS THIS!!!

South Side Swing is starting up Tuesday August 24! Don't like driving all the way across town for your swing? Been itching to dance again Tuesday nights? IT IS YOUR TIME!

The lessons, taught by Jason and Danielle Knight, will be set up in 4 week series and the intermediate classes WILL build on each other so it will be harder to walk in later on in the game. The beginner lessons will also change but while some may be a little more difficult a first time beginner will still be able to walk in.
7:00-8:00- Int. Lesson
8:00-9:00- Beg. Lesson
9:00-10:00- Practice time

The Huntsville Swing Dance Society got it's start in 1995 when Paul Wieland and a few friends started getting together to swing dance. He started it with some of the dancers gathered at a drug store downtown that served ice cream sodas. At that time, HSDS held a dance every few months. Al and Alta Bogush joined in 2000 and, (among helping with many other things), have kept records of HSDS events, year after year.

Friday night starts off with a 2-hour CHARLESTON class taught by Reuel Reis from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. This will be one of the last times that UAH will have Reuel this summer, since he is moving to New Orleans soon. 2 hours of intensive CHARLESTON fun . . . technique and cool moves. Don't miss this!!!

Then after the workshop, stay for the UAH DANCE from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m.!

Solomon Douglas will be teaching an intermediate lindy hop workshop before entertaining us at the HSDS Dance. He's come all the way to Huntsville from Seattle so this is your best chance this year to get some west coast instruction! The workshop will focus on musicality and making the music happen in your dance. Solomon is a swing rockstar, as an artist, a musician, and a dancer. Come get some!

Just a reminder, we are shagging again Wednesday, 7 July 6:30-8:30 pm at the Brahan Spring Recreation Center. The rec center is the white building located behind the Senior Center (Drake Avenue) at 3770 Ivy Avenue. Easiest access is to turn off Drake, North, and it will be on the left just after you pass the Senior Center. Front door faces Ivy Avenue.

There is NOTHING hotter than bootleg blues, but sometimes summer heat is good. If you were there or saw the recap, you know that the heat wasn't just from the summer sun. And people can't get enough so we're doing it again. July 2nd, we're bringing back the blues and the summer heat.

Just like the summer, all good things must end. Don't bide your time. No-one gets a second chance. Be happy for the second bootleg blues and pray there's a third before the heat fades and the summer of blues is gone.

Man, what an awesome dance! Normally DJ dances are a nice mellow affair. A lull between the bands. This was anything but! Rob, Breanna and Danielle all put off rock solid sets and gabe ended was one hell of a blues playlist!
