The Rocket City Jazz Orchestra has become North Alabama's most active
and sought after jazz and swing big band. This 19-piece band delivers exciting
big band jazz, swing, and pop music. The band plays classics from Glenn Miller
and Count Basie, as well as big band arrangements of tunes from modern
performers such as Earth, Wind, and Fire, Brian Setzer and Phil Collins. This

Join us for a great night, starting with a blues lesson taught by Reuel Reis, and followed by a wonderful night of dancing to the music that will get those hips moving! This unique concert is held on 35 Fridays per year in the art museum's Great Hall. The performance is scheduled from 6:00-8:30pm. Catered and with 2 cash bars, these non-smoking events are family friendly and great for dates. Admission is $8 for nonmembers, $4 for members and students, except where noted otherwise. Free for 17 years and under.

If you're interested in improving your Lindy Hop, then the Hop Shop is for you. It's a weekend packed full of personalized critiques from each instructor.

As a student, you'll be in a small group of 8 people. Throughout the weekend, you'll spend an hour at each station. At this station, you and the other members of your group will get personalized critiques and exercises from that station’s instructor.

BluesSHOUT! has always been about bringing you the best of the best. This year, we're headed to Texas where everything's just a little bit bigger (and dare we say, "better"?). It's a Texas Throwdown!

We'll be showcasing the biggest and best of the Lone Star State. We're ready to throw down with some amazing music, some outstanding classes, and more fun than you can poke with a cattle prod. All that's missing from this Texas-sized shindig is YOU!

Below is a table of the dances for 2010. Please note, this is our initial scheduling and does not include performers yet. As we add workshops, weekends, and special dances, this list will change.

The March dance is tentative but will likely also include a beginner workshop for those people who want to get into dancing but can't take progressive lessons.

We all know the dance and the music are inseparable and the same goes for dancers and musicians. If you've been to any out-of-town dance you've seen some of the dancers jammin on the side. Old City Buskers was born from these dancers and they remain committed to their dance roots!

Thanks everyone that came out to beginner's lesson with Reuel Reis and the UAH Dance Club dance with the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra. It's continuously a challenge to express how surprised and pleased we are that we take a huge place like the UAH exhibit center or the Flying Monkey Arts Center and just pack it full of dancers regularly.
